US Passport Office Locations In Major US Cities
If you plan to get your first US passport or renew your most recent passport or replace your stolen passport, you have to apply for this at any one of the US passport offices located around the United States. This office is also known as the Passport Services Office which is under the Bureau of Consular Affairs within the Department of State. A US passport office primarily provides detailed passport information and services to all American citizens who intend to travel abroad.
At present, there are over 9,000 US passport offices in the United States. These networks of offices are also known as passport acceptance facilities which are designated by the Passport Services office to receive applications. These US passport offices comprise local post offices, public libraries, municipal or county government offices, local courts, and state or township government offices. You can easily find these US passport offices in your area of residence.
In addition to these US passport offices, there are currently thirteen regional passport agencies and one Gateway City Passport Agency which mainly accepts expedite services for passport processing. These offices only serve applicants who need to travel within the next two weeks or those who need to get foreign visas before they travel to a specific country. These regional agencies require an appointment before they entertain any passport application.
The thirteen regional passport offices and gateway city US passport office are located in the following cities: 1. Boston - Thomas P. O'Neill Federal Building at Causeway Street 2. Chicago - Klucznski Federal Building at Dearborn Street 3. Colorado - Cherry Creek III at South Vaughn Way
4. Connecticut - Washington Street, Norwalk 5. Honolulu - Prince Kuhio Federal Building at Ala Moana Boulevard 6. Houston - Mickey Leland Federal Building at Smith Street 7. This office is called the Special Issuance Agency which is also located in Washington DC, at the 19th Street, NW Suite 200. Applicants must be traveling abroad to represent the United States Government. If their trip is for a personal vacation, they still need to use a regular US passport. Bear in mind that all these US passport offices do not charge for setting up an appointment. If you call for an appointment, ensure that you do not pay any business or anyone for this service. Given the increasing US passport applications, the Passport Services Office opened two passport processing centers which are primarily designed to assist in meeting the demand for passport applications. However, these two centers are closed to the public. These centers are located in Charleston and Portsmouth.
