It is easy and quick to get a US passport. All it takes is for you to be aware of how and where you can get one. If you are a first-timer in applying to get a US passport, you need to personally go to the passport acceptance facility in your area of residence. You can choose from any facility, which ranges from public libraries, federal courts, state or probate courts and county offices. If you just need to renew your passport or you just lost your passport, you need to know how and where you can get a US passport.

There are several types and ways to get a US passport. These types and ways are primarily subdivided into first time applications, renewal, passports for children under 14 years old and below, stolen, lost or damaged passports, and diplomatic, official or no-fee passports.

(1) Get a US passport for the first time - you need to apply in person by visiting any of the passport acceptance facility in your area. All you need is to bring two passport photographs, any valid identification which contains your photo such as a driver's license, and your proof of US citizenship.

(2) Get a US passport renewed - you just need to mail your most recent passport together with a completely filled-out DS-82 form to a passport acceptance facility in your area. Together with these documents, you also need to submit your most recent passport photographs and a fee of US$ 67 payable to the US Department of State.

(3) Lost, stolen or damaged passport - you also need to get a US passport in person at any passport acceptance facility if you lost or damaged your passport. For a lost or stolen passport, be sure to report this immediately. You also need to fill out a Form DS-64 with a statement with regards to your lost or stolen passport and submit this in person together with a DS-11 form.

(4) Passports for children under 14 years old and below - there are special requirements for children with parents or guardians who plan to get a US passport for them. Children must fill-out Form DS-11 and submit this in person together with proof of citizenship and relationship. Proof of relationship includes a certified US birth certificate, citizenship or naturalization certificate from USCIS, a certificate of birth abroad, and previous fully valid US passport.

(5) Diplomatic, official and no-fee regular passports - this type of passport can only be obtained if you are traveling abroad for the Government of the United States. This type of passport is only issued by the Special Issuance Agency in Washington, DC. You can get a US passport (diplomatic, official or no-fee type of passport) if you are a personnel working under the military, Federal Government Agency, Department of State and Peace Corps.

Given these various means of getting a passport, it is indeed easy to get a US passport on your own. Just ensure that you have all the correct documents required.
