There are times when you just cannot help but apply for an emergency passport in your most unexpected moments. For example, if you have a family member who is involved in a serious injury or illness, or if one of your family members died, it will require to travel around one to two hours to another country right away. There are also emergency business trips which require you to travel from one country to another at a very short span of time. This will not become a problem if you have a ready passport with you, but what if you do not have one? There are certain cases wherein you were not able to check on your passport and you need it right away. You were not able to check that your passport has been already expired for a year, and you need to apply for a new one. And in these cases, you need to apply for an emergency passport.

The first thing that you have to remember when applying for an emergency passport is to take note of the reason for applying for one first. If such cases occur, you may contact the National Passport Information Center hotline at 1-877-487-2778. The main reason for you to call this hotline is for you to schedule an appointment in the Passport Agency nearest you. There is nothing to worry about since there are a number of passport agencies in the country which are always ready to cater to your needs. The hotline is automated, so your calls will be attended to 24 hours a day. You do not have to worry about waiting and being put on hold once you call this hotline.

However, if the schedule of the appointment that you need is unavailable, or if you are calling from six in the morning to twelve midnight, your call will be directed to a customer service representative. Please be patient when this happens because the customer service representative is always ready to help you and they would like to put your best interests forward. The customer service representative will be the one who will instruct you on what to do when this happens. However, these representatives are available on weekends but for limited hours, and they can assist customers who are traveling within seven days.

One should expect anything when this emergency situation happens. If at any rate, the appointment that will meet your needs and qualifications is not available, or if by chances you are calling on a federal holiday, or you are calling on hours in which the customer service representatives are not available, you are left to do only one thing. Call 202-647-4000, and explain the situation that you are in to the operator who is ready to assist you.

There are a number of reasons why you need to apply for an emergency passport. Just put into mind that for whatever emergency you need to apply for a speedy processing of your passport, it is very important for you to deal with people accordingly.
